Life Coaching - Questions & Answers

What life coaching qualifications have you got?

I have an ILM Level 5 Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring from Aspire at Loughborough University. I have completed the coaching experience required to become an associate Member of the Association for Coaching (AMAC).

How do you keep your coaching skills up to date?

I attend coaching updates and events and receive good practice updates from the Association for coaching and the ILM. I look for new ideas on line and in the media and ask from feedback from people I coach.

Will what I say be kept confidential?

Coaches sign up to the Code of Ethics, available on the Association for coaching website. I also sign an agreement with you about confidentiality and can answer any questions to give you peace of mind.

Who makes sure you are coaching well?

I have regular supervision with other qualified coaches. This is good practice. I also attend coaching updates and events and receive good practice updates from the Association for coaching and the ILM. We cover the sort of moral and ethical dilemmas a coach might face.

What if coaching is not for me?

If someone finds that coaching is not for them, the sessions may be ended by agreement. The coach may offer the opportunity to work up alternatives the coachee could choose to follow either instead of or to complement coaching.

How do you deal with moral and ethical issues?

As part of the Association for Coaching I have to abide by their Code of Ethics and Practice for Coaches, which can be found on their website.
